Plenary Session I:  Asian Licensing Market Outlook

主论坛(一):扬州授权业市场展望

The licensing industry in Asia continues to grow with the middle-class population and the rapid development of Asia’s emerging markets.  According to the latest Annual Global Licensing Industry Survey conducted by Licensing International, Asia accounted for 12% of the US$280 billion of global retail sales of licensed merchandise in 2018 and was the third largest licensing market of the world.  Mainland China, with the 6.5% year-on-year increase, which is the highest among all Asian countries, remained the second largest licensing market of Asia.  Our panel of experts will analyse the latest market trends in Asia’s licensing industry and shed lights on opportunities ahead.   

亚洲授权市场继续受惠于不断增长的中等收入人口及新兴亚洲经济地区的高速发展。根据Licensing International 的最新全球授权业周年调查报告, 2018年亚洲佔全球总值 2,800亿美元授权商品零售额的12%,是全球第三大授权市场。中国内地年比增幅达6.5%,为亚洲之冠,是亚洲第二大的授权市场。主论坛(一)的专家讲者将分析亚洲授权业的最新市场趋势和机遇。

主论坛(二):  从品牌授权到时尚生活体验

Licensing is increasingly used by brands as the brand extension strategy to expand beyond core business, strengthen the bond with consumers, expand new market segments and generate new revenue source. On the other hand, manufacturers and retailers, edu-tainment and F&B businesses are actively seeking collaboration with brands to add values to their products and services.  Today, brand variety has also diversified from characters and animations to art, culture, corporates, collegiate and music properties, creating huge business opportunities and cultivating different market landscape to the licensing industry.  In this session, industry experts will share their successes in extending their brands to lifestyle products and services and creating unique brand experience to customers.

Gaming and Esports have become the mainstream entertainment in the recent years.  According to the latest Newzoo market reports, revenue of the global gaming market reaches US$152.1 billion in 2019 with a 9.6% year-on-year growth and Asia accounts for 47% of the global share. Spinning off from the Gaming industry, Esports’ global revenue grows by 26.7% attaining US$1.1 billion in 2019, and Mainland China has become the second largest Esports market representing 19% of the global market share.  In this session, industry pioneers will unveil the business opportunities brought by the license-based Gaming and Esports activities ranging from media rights and tournaments, games publishing, merchandising and ticketing.

Cultural and creative contents have emerged to become ubiquitous licenses pervading merchandises and services of our everyday lives.  Aside from the market drives, governments are also supporting their museums, galleries and libraries to turn their collections of arts, paintings, photographs, publications and cultural heritages into digital archives for licensing use.

Clearly, the booming social media, growing open data application and promotion of sharing economy have largely expanded the reach of culture and creative contents to business and consumers.  The movement ignites the creations of derivative licenses, and even turns consumers into content creators and license owners, bringing new challenges and opportunities to the licensing space.

In this session, industry pioneers will discuss the latest development of cultural and creative contents and unveil the huge business opportunities in transforming these contents into licenses.
